What an incredible five days it has been at the Lions Clubs International Convention. It has truly been a meaningful experience for us.

We are deeply grateful to have been part of this special event, where we had the opportunity to meet visitors from many different countries, listen to their stories, and raise awareness about food allergy through the “Food Allergy Traveller Survey”. Before sharing more detailed highlights, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the [Lions Club of Hong Kong Shouson Hill] for co-organising this survey, the [Hong Kong Institute of Allergy] for its support, and [Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong & Macao, China] for giving us this valuable opportunity.

Over the past five days, we collected more than 200 responses, and every conversation meant a great deal to me. Many visitors kindly shared their experiences of living with food allergies while travelling in Hong Kong, and we were deeply moved by their suggestion and support.

We were especially encouraged to meet visitors who understood and strongly supported what we are doing, and who recognised the importance of raising awareness of food allergy in Hong Kong.

One of the most memorable conversations we had was with a visitor from Canada, who told me that paper straws are sometimes made from seafood shells, which may not be safe for people with crustacean shellfish allergy. It was surprising and valuable information, and wee believe it deserves further investigation.

We also met several visitors from China who were interested in learning more about food allergy, as information in China is also limited. We were glad to share the Chinese comic books and leaflets sponsored by [CUHK] and [HKU], and we truly hope they will bring this information back home and help raise awareness in their own communities.

Beyond making new friends at the convention, we were also very grateful for the support of my friends and family, who attended the event and helped distribute the survey QR code cards. Their presence meant a great deal to us.

This is only the beginning. We will be sharing more highlights and the survey results soon, so please stay tuned and continue to support SAFE BITE HK as we work together towards a safer, more food allergy-friendly Hong Kong.
